Life insurance FAQs

Life insurance can provide a lump sum payment if you pass away. The payment may help support your beneficiaries with ongoing expenses and financial commitments.

Terminal illness cover is generally included, and can provide an early payout of death cover if you're diagnosed with less than a 24 or 12 month (depending on your policy) life expectancy, and meet the policy requirements.

Depending on your policy, death cover may not be paid in some circumstances, such as death caused by suicide or intentional self‑inflicted injury within a specified period, or war. Check your insurance documentation for specific details of what is and isn't covered.

The tax treatment of life insurance depends on how the cover is held and your individual circumstances. Tax rules can be complex, so you may wish to speak with a registered tax adviser for information relevant to your situation.

Life insurance (death cover) in super generally pays a lump sum to your eligible beneficiaries if you pass away. This can be in addition to your super account balance.

Life insurance payments are made to your eligible beneficiaries.

Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) insurance FAQs

TPD insurance can provide a lump sum payment if you become permanently disabled or too sick to ever work again, and meet the policy requirements.

A qualifying period may apply before a TPD benefit can be paid. The requirements depend on your cover and circumstances.

No. Generally, TPD cover is only available together with death cover.

    Income protection insurance FAQs

Income protection insurance may be available through your super account. Premiums are generally deducted from your super balance and, if eligible, benefits may be paid if illness or injury prevents you from working.

Income protection insurance may provide monthly payments if you are unable to work due to illness or injury and meet the policy requirements. Payments are generally designed to replace part of your income for a period of time while you recover.

No. You may be eligible if you can’t work due to illness or injury, regardless of where it happened.

Yes. Payments from other sources may reduce your monthly benefit, depending on the source of the payment and the cover that applies to you. Check your insurance guide.
