    FAQs

    An interest only home loan allows you to pay just the interest on your loan for a set period, in this case, up to 10 years. That means lower monthly repayments during the interest only period, giving you greater cashflow flexibility and more choice in how you manage your money.

    Once the interest only period finishes, your loan will automatically switch to principal and interest repayments for the remainder of the loan term. This means your repayments will increase as you begin paying down the loan balance as it now includes the principal.

    During the interest only period, you're not paying down the principal on your loan, so you're not building equity in your property. Your repayments will also increase once the interest only period ends. It’s a great option for some, but not for everyone — which is why we offer a range of home loan choices to suit different goals and life stages.

    There are no extra fees just for choosing interest only repayments, but interest only loans typically have slightly higher rates than principal and interest loans. Our 10-year interest only option is only available as part of our offset home loan, which includes an annual package fee of $349.     Yes, you can. On variable rate loans, extra repayments are welcome and will help reduce your overall loan balance. Just keep in mind, for fixed rate loans, extra repayments over $10,000 in a 12-month period may incur break costs.
