Roses, chocolates and champagne never go out of fashion. But if you want to indulge your true love, check out our suggestions which are based on our readers’ tips for giving a whole lotta love on a shoestring budget.
1. Cook an incredible edible
Make your partner swoon with their favourite food, like chocolate strawberries. But make it with a twist each year to have them coming back for more. Go for churros with chocolate sauce with exotic berries or chocolate and raspberry tart.
2. Go the sentimental route
Create a beautiful jar or tin with lots of small hand-written notes on all the reasons why you adore your partner. Easy to make, hard to forget.
3. Create an indoor picnic
Spread a blanket and cushions on the lounge room floor, serve their favourite meal with good quality wine, a love candle and softly playing the music you listened to when you first fell in love.
4. Use the element of surprise
If your loved one won't be around for Valentine's, plant little reminders in their bag, a picture of you and a sweet note that you will remember them on the day.
5. Keep it simple
Get a large canvas or photo framed with a photo of you and your true love and hang it on the bedroom wall.
6. Tease them with a treasure hunt
Have a Great Amazing Race day where you have fun together while doing silly challenges and receiving the next clues from perfect strangers!
7. Sail away!
Hire a tinny and go sailing in your local bay. Pretend you’re the owl and the pussycat running away in a beautiful pea-green boat.
