About us

Who we are

We have been helping clients with their finances since we were founded as ipac in 1983. Today we’re backed by the strength of AMP and have offices throughout Australia.

We talk a lot about goals because, to us, financial advice is more than just numbers. It’s about helping people live better lives and reach their potential.

Everyone has goals but getting started on them is often the hardest step. So we’ve made that easy with our innovative goals explorer technology – a fresh way to look at your goals. Once you’re clear about your goals, our financial advisers create a plan to track and help you achieve your goals.

You’re at the centre of every conversation. We’re here to listen and understand what’s important for you. We’re upfront about how we work and our costs, so you’ll never be surprised by extra fees or hidden charges.

Our team of expert advisers includes specialists in investment strategy, super, retirement, insurance, personal injury and redundancy.

We look forward to helping you with your goals.

Our financial planning expertise

Everyone is unique. What’s important to you, and what’s important to someone else are two completely different things. So spend time understanding what you truly want out of life and we’ll tailor a financial plan to help you achieve it.

Our financial advisers provide financial advice in areas to help you:

  • plan your retirement
  • safeguard your future
  • make the most of super
  • thrive in retirement
  • invest for the long-term
  • transfer wealth to the next generation
  • deal with a life changing event such as divorce or redundancy
  • organise aged care

But as we all know life doesn’t fit into neat little boxes, and doesn’t always go the way we planned. That is why we model a range of scenarios from best case to worst case and help you make the right choices for your unique situation.

Our financial advice goes beyond the technical aspects of investing, super and tax planning – covering the unexpected, the individual, and all the little nuances that make your life different. And, that makes you, you.

Meet our team

At AMP Advice Newcastle, our team stands out for their commitment to walk the journey with you.
We won’t set you off on a journey alone or with unrealistic or unclear goals. Once your priorities are set, we’ll make sure everything is in place for you to meet your goals, and we’ll be there to help as your situation and needs evolve.

Jacob Locascio

Associate Adviser

Bachelor of Commerce
Diploma of Financial Planning

Jacob began his career four years ago as a trainee paraplanner whilst he was in the last year of University.

Upon completion of his tertiary qualifications, he accepted a full time role as a paraplanner with Forsythes Financial Services,  an equity partner of ipac securities and now known as AMP Advice Newcastle (a registered trademark of AMP Limited).

Two years ago, Jacob was asked to assist the team based out of the Central Coast office.

Being a paraplanner with AMP Advice Newcastle meant that I am part of a national team; reporting to my direct manager who was based in Melbourne. It was an exciting transition from a Newcastle based small business, to a company with a national footprint.

Jacob is currently an Associate Adviser with AMP Advice Newcastle.

Why financial advice?

I’ve always had a keen interest in all things finance! Making my first investment in the share market a few months before the Global Financial Crisis hit was a big learning curve. I experienced firsthand the need for good quality advice and would have appreciated an educated adviser to help guide me through that period. Being able to meet with a diverse range of people, develop relationships and hopefully educate them in an area that I’m passionate about it was drew me to financial planning.

What's their goal?

I love travelling; and while my short term goal is to travel somewhere new each year, I also try to balance this with planning for the future. I am aiming to enter the property market over the next year or two. I’m currently undertaking the Certified Financial Planning course and hope to attain this qualification by 2018. In my spare time I enjoy keeping fit through running and swimming; and have a long term goal of one day completing a triathlon!

Jason Simmons

Diploma of Financial Planning

Jason’s work history has been somewhat varied having worked in retail customer service roles from a young age.

After leaving school he completed a degree in Contemporary Music which led him to work in the music industry in Sydney for some years.

On returning to Newcastle, Jason worked in the mining industry.

Jason proudly joined AMP Advice Newcastle two years ago and is currently assisting Megan Rich with the ongoing management of her client portfolios.

Why financial advice?

I became interested in financial advice after seeing the result of bad investments made by people close to me. Good financial advice could have saved a lot of heartache, and a lot of money in those situations, and for these reasons I believe very strongly in the value of financial advice.

What's their goal?

I start every year with a page of goals and review them every day - finally sitting down on new year’s eve each year to tick all the items off that I completed that year. It’s a great feeling to tick each item off seeing how much you accomplished over the year. This year, my goals list includes being healthier, achieving some fitness goals, as well as ticking 3 things of my bucket list.

What's their goal?

I love playing hockey, renovating our house and being active with my two boys.

My husband and I have travelled and now we are determined to show our little family the world, hoping one day to take my husband to a cricket game in another country.

Why financial advice?

After many years in childcare administration, in 2007 I was given the opportunity to make a career change to financial planning. Courtney Simpson

Client Relationship Manager

Courtney started her career initially in the hospitality industry, straight out of school. She enjoys working with customers and being able to provide people with a service that they were after however yearned a role where she could build lasting connections with those people.

Her first job in administration was for New Hunter Business assisting the Coordinator of the New Enterprise Incentive Scheme (NEIS). In this role Courtney was able to contribute to new start-up businesses and work closely with the participants in the program to realise their dreams and get their business ideas off the ground. This was both rewarding and empowering and a real joy to go to work each day.

In December 2014 Courtney was presented with an opportunity to join the Financial Services Industry at ipac. She first joined the team as the receptionist and worked closely with advisers and Client Relationships Managers while starting to build a rapport with some of our clients. Along with managing office operations, she is also the main organiser of our office events and client functions.

Early 2016, she was promoted to Client Relationship Manager and has since been working alongside our Client Services Manager/Private Client Adviser, Lance Swansbra and his clients. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding experience thus far and she looks forward to a bright future working with our valued clients and team.

Why financial advice?

I believe that all things financial don’t always come naturally to people and that setting yourself up with a good financial foundation will help anyone achieve anything. I therefore became drawn to the financial advice industry to help people to establish and grow this foundation and to help them realise and reach their goals.

What's their goal?

I enjoy spending time with my family and learning new things. I am hoping to commence my Diploma of Financial Planning shortly after the birth of my son later this year. I also hope to participate in my first fun run in 2017.
